Where to Stay for Fun in Frisco?

Drury Hotel

Fun in Frisco starts by staying in a comfortable and family friendly place.

In all of my travels, I kept hearing about the Drury Hotel chain and how amazing it is for families.  We finally had the chance to try it in Frisco.  The Drury Hotel is a dream for parents.

Included in your stay, every night they have appetizers they call the ‘kickback’.  For our family of six this is so convenient, not to mention cost-effective.  Although it was advertised as ‘appetizers’, we found soup, salad, chicken tenders and a pasta dish, compete with drinks -making it a complete meal.  Everyone found plenty to fill up on.  This was the perfect end to a long day, and we didn’t even have to load the kids up in the car to go home, we just went straight to the hotel room for the night.

As if the dinner wasn’t enough of an incentive, the Drury Hotel in Frisco offers an indoor rooftop pool and spa.  The kids played for over an hour while we relaxed in the spa and enjoyed their happy fun in Frisco.  Wearing kids out before bed is the perfect recipe for a great night’s sleep.

The one bedroom suite at the Drury Hotel was perfect for our family of six.  This included a room with two generous queen beds with a door.  The other room had a pull out couch and a couple of small chairs and a desk.  A bathroom big enough to accommodate our large family is exactly what we needed.  The floor to ceiling windows showed us a great view, but the blackout curtains ensured it didn’t interrupt our sleep.

Waking up in the Drury Hotel in Frisco, you can enjoy the weight room for an early morning workout. Or if you like to take it outdoors, cross the street for a run through Central Park and the bridges and lakes area of Frisco.  You’ll love running or walking among the longhorn cattle sculptures and gardens in this park.

While many hotels are not offering hot breakfast during the pandemic, the Drury hotel continues to provide a hot and delicious meal with safety precautions in place.  Unlike the usual buffet style, you will be served the food that you ask for.  We were offered biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and oatmeal.  The Drury Hotel also provides cold food such as cereal and milk, yogurt, and bakery items.  Every person in your family will find something to start the day off right at a Drury Hotel breakfast included in your stay.

What to Do for Fun in Frisco?

While I am only highlighting a few of our family’s favorite things to do in Frisco, there is much more to explore. Expect to find lots of fun in Frisco, TX.

National Soccer Hall of Fame

We started our fun in Frisco at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. I normally wouldn’t think my young children would be interested in a Hall of Fame, but this one proved me wrong! Players from history and significant historical events in soccer might not hold their interest.  However, the National Soccer Hall of Fame provided a personal and interactive experience that my kids loved!

When you check into the Hall of Fame, you create an account and take a photo of yourself to be used throughout the museum.  You will find camera and facial recognition technology in multiple locations throughout the Hall of Fame.  When a camera recognizes your face, it will pull up your account and save all the creations you make, photos you take or goals you score.

The Hall of Fame displays famous players jerseys, paraphernalia, and other significant items.  The scavenger hunt to find specific details in the area kept my kids attention and interest.  They were bursting with stories to tell about particular soccer players.

Once the scavenger hunt is complete, you can turn it in to earn a mini soccer ball. We used the ball at the hotel pool just a few hours later.  So thankful for the hours of entertainment!

The National Soccer Hall of Fame is full of interactive experiences.  One is a simulated soccer skills area.  You can watch yourself juggle or score a virtual soccer ball. Your statistics are saved to your account.

Another exhibit allows you to create a soccer jersey with designs, colors, and icons of your choice, complete with the name on the back.  This also saves to your account to access later through your email.

The green screen photo-bombing exhibit was a hit.  You take photos against a green screen, which places you in the middle of a soccer scene.  Be as dramatic or dry as you desire.  All the fun photos are automatically saved to your account.

Pre-COVID the National Soccer Hall of Fame also offered a virtual reality exhibit.  Hopefully, this will come back soon.

That’s not all the Hall of Fame offers. Play foosball with the actual head of famous all-stars, create a soccer fantasy team, find your college team’s soccer scarf and look over the vast stadium from behind a wall of windows.

The National Soccer Hall of Fame in Frisco is fun and informative for all ages.  The new technology will captivate the attention of all ages.

Discovery Center

If you’re wondering what to do in Frisco, look no further than the Discovery Center. This is a large building with a collection of some of the best Museums Frisco has to offer.  All under one roof, you can visit four different museums.

Sci-Tech Discovery Center, American Historical Railroad, TrainTopia and National Video Game Museum are all in one easy-to-access location.  Purchasing a Museum pass for $25 will give you entrance into all the museums, plus the Heritage Museum across town.  This pass never expires and can be used on different days, so if you live close this is the perfect way to see and experience it all.

Another way to access these activities is through a Pogo Pass. The Pogo Pass includes several Frisco destinations including the National Video Game Museum, Frisco Rough Riders, Star Center Admission. The pogo pass also gives you entrance to multiple venues throughout the DFW metroplex.

TrainTopia

One man, Steve Sanders donated his entire model train collection to the city of Frisco, Texas to be put on display, and is now called TrainTopia.

In one massive room, you will be privy to the mountains of Colorado, the mesas of New Mexico and Arizona and the downtown old-time city of Dallas. Woven throughout the landscapes are tracks of running model trains. You’ll find unique and detailed scenes of Old town Dallas, drive-in movies, miners, and more. The diversity of this model train area is difficult to described, but fascinating to spend time discovering.

Be sure to complete a scavenger hunt at TrainTopia to be pointed to many tiny interesting details you may miss with a first glance.  As you move through the exhibit, the lights will change to display the brightest day and a dark night.  Different aspects of the display will be accented with the variety of lights.

While you cannot touch or physically interact with this display, you will love showing your family all the interesting scenes and hidden gems you find throughout TrainTopia. Fun in Frisco includes a trip to TrainTopia.

Sci-Tech Discovery Center

If your kids love science museums, like mine, put the Sci-Tech Discovery Museum on your list of what to do in Frisco! The whole museum is in one massive warehouse room, so kids can move from activity to exploration at their own curiosity without leaving your sight. You will love being able to create and explore to your heart’s content, without losing the kids.

Our family loved making Lego cars, wind planes, Keva block towers, giant bubbles and more. When planning things to do in Frisco, carve out 2-4 hours to create and explore at the Sci-Tech Discovery Museum.

National Videogame Museum

The only National Videogame Museum is located in Frisco, TX. This is the perfect place to go in DFW with kids. As we only walked through the lobby you can see the remnants of old videogame consoles, that may even date back to before your childhood! The entrance is bright and inviting with all your favorite video game characters.

Inside the National Videogame Museum, you will be treated to all the old favorites in videogame culture. You are greeted with a giant game of pong. We found Tetris, duck hunt, munch man, and many more.

You can also purchase tokens to use on old arcade games you love. But there are plenty of options to play games that are included in your admission.

We loved spending time here, going to the Sci-tech Discovery Museum, and then going back into the videogame museum to play more of our favorites.

KidZania

The top of your list of what to do in Frisco with kids should include KidZania. It is a must-do experience.

KidZania is a town run by kids for kids.  The children do various jobs throughout the city and they earn KidZos (money) that they can spend to buy rock climbing, ropes course, pilot simulations or toys and candy at the local department store.

My children were so motivated and thrilled to spend time doing jobs they’ve always dreamed of.  While COVID precautions have shut down a few of the jobs, we still found plenty of options for work and fun.

The town is best suited for kids age 4-14.  If you have a toddler, the toddler area is shut down during COVID so there is very little a youngster can do right now.

When you check in your kids will receive a secure wristband.  Their wristband is connected to the parents so you can only leave together. When the kids do a job, they are checked in by the wristband to start.  When they check out KidZos are automatically added to their account for the work they did.

Kids will not be able to leave the area without the adult they came with.  You will have your wristbands scanned as you exit.  Adults may exit and reenter (as long as there is another adult available inside KidZania for the kids). But children can’t leave and reenter.

You’ll find plenty of food options so plan on staying all day as the kids won’t want to stop ‘working’ to eat.  My favorite food option was paying $8 for a pizza class at Pie Five Pizza.  The kids make their own personal pizza and experience the whole process. When the pizza is done, they get to eat their food and snack.

The firefighting experience is so incredible.  First, the kids learn all about fire safety.  They use fire extinguisher (with lasers installed) to hit a virtual fire target to learn to put out the fire.  Once, they are dressed up in fire hats, they take a ride on a kid-sized fire truck to put out a tall flaming building with real water.  My daughter worked as a firefighter four times and begged for more.

My kid’s favorite jobs were the hair salon, package delivery, veterinarian, and acting.   You are able to do the jobs more than once, but the jobs do have a schedule of when they are open for business. If you are late to the job start, you have to wait for the next time slot.

KidZania has a parent room upstairs.  This is a kid-free quiet zone with WiFI, charging stations, comfy chairs and long couches for that much needed nap.  While your kids is working, most of the job don’t allow parents inside the rooms.  While you can watch through the glass window, you are also welcome to enjoy some quiet time up in the parent room.  While I love my kids and experiencing museums with them, I also loved some time to work, relax and catch a nap while they had the time of their life.  We easily reconnected when their job was done, and they had lots to share with me.

KidZania website says that typically kids can experience 4-6 jobs, but my kids easily did 10-12 jobs.  Perhaps it was less crowded due to COVID restrictions, but we were able to get into the activities without waiting too long. My kids experienced all their top job choices, plus more.

We stayed at KidZania for nearly seven hours and it wasn’t enough for the kids.  Make sure to plan time to spend all their hard-earned KidZos at the department store on the corner at the front of the city before you leave.  The store offers knick-knacks, toys and candy in all price ranges.  Spend it all or save it for your next trip to KidZania.

Where to Eat in Frisco?

One of the best things to do in Frisco, TX is to eat! We ate dinner and breakfast at the Drury Hotel which is so helpful in cost and ease for a big family.  But we did have a few meals I want to share with you.

The Star

While Frisco offers multiple delicious food options, I’ll share the ones I are personally.  Wahlburgers has delicious burgers and other food options.  Next door, you will find Cow-Tipping Creamery perfect for a cone or shake. You’ll find these venues in The Star

At The Star, you’ll find a green turf, miniature football play space, multiple hall of fame numbers and displays as well as a water feature and large metal huddle structure.

I loved the feeling in the area.  Eating and people watching in the plaza filled me up with good food and relaxation.  If you are lucky, you may even see multiple Ferraris and cool cars like we did!  The Star is the Cowboys practice arena so, only the best for the best Texas football team.

The only Kidzania in USA is located in Frisco Texas. Your kids will love becoming the community workers of this town built just for them!

Fun in Frisco abounds. If you are in DFW with kids, don’t miss the exciting adventures and other things to do in Frisco TX.

You’ll find plenty of other activities in DFW with kids! While you are in the area, don’t miss these spots.
