As standby travelers, we sometimes pack for a trip in a matter of minutes (17 minutes was our shortest packing time).  If a flight fills up and we need to leave earlier than expected, it can leave us scrambling to get everything together in time.  One of the ways I am able to pack for 6 people very quickly is by having our toiletry bag ready to go at all times

Pre-packing this one item makes packing for a trip so much easier. Your mind can rest easy that you have all the essentials. Just grab and go on an adventure!

Travel Toiletry Bag

The Bag

First, get an easily recognizable bag with compartments and zippers for small items.

This hanging bag with all the compartments contained looks amazing {click to buy on Amazon}

For us this little zipper tote I got at the local Kroger works great.

Everything Extra

Next, have an extra set of everything you’ll need in the bathroom as you travel.

Everything I carry in my toiletry bag is an extra. This means I don’t have to remember to grab my razor from the shower.  It is already packed for me.  Plus, when I get home, all of my products I use on a daily basis will still be waiting for me in their proper place. Time saved packing AND unpacking!

My kid’s at-home toothbrushes stay at home and are ready for them when they return.

Sleep essentials and family toothbrushes

If you can have an extra set of cosmetics for travel this is even more helpful. Bonus if it can fit in the bag with all the other items!

Medicine/ First Aid Kit

Pre-pack a small medicine pack to go on any trip. Anticipate your children’s needs. Pack a small amount of each kind of medicine you think might be helpful.

Here’s what I carry in my medicine bag: (Updated to include kids dramamine for my plane sick toddler)

  • Chewable melatonin
  • Chewable Aspirin
  • Dramamine (for kids and parents)
  • Tylenol (with syringe or cup)
  • Excedrin
  • Essential oils for bug bites (purification)
  • Chewable Pep to Bismal
  • Tums
  • Daytime/nighttime cold meds
  • Hydrocortisone cream
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Cold sore cream
  • Bug spray /cream
  • Cold-eeze, cough drops
  • Band-aids
  • Tampons/pads
  • Zantac
  • Prescription Medication
  • Vitamins

Think about your family needs.  What are the kids frequently using?

My son gets hives frequently and inevitably it flares up when we travel.  I now always travel with hydrocortisone cream.  This helps ease his discomfort, in the process easing travel for all of us! Plus anytime there is an itch, I have some cream to try out… even if its just to soothe their mind.

What other needs does your family have? My husband typically gets headaches when we travel and only excedrin works for him.  Many adults get travel diarrhea.   Bring cough drops or vitamin drops for those coughing while sharing a hotel room.

If you don’t spend the time or money getting little medicinal items on-the-go, your travels will be easier and it will save you money!
